Evidence-Based Research

The Academy has a strong commitment to utilising current evidence-based art and play therapy research in order to inform best practice when working with clients and relevant stakeholders. The Academy defines “best practice” as the integration of the best available art and play therapy research with the best available clinical expertise in the context of client needs and well-being.

The Academy also has a strong commitment to contributing to evidence-based research in art and play therapy practices, particularly in the Australian context. The Academy publishes The Australian Journal of Art & Play Therapy™ which especially encourages contributions from art and play clinicians engaged in vocational action research.   Vocational action research is the principal research model adopted by the Academy when investigating best practice and continuous improvement regarding art and play applications in therapy. For more information about the Journal, please contact the Academy.

The Academy has developed a number of art and play therapy programs to address specific client needs and issues. Programs are licensed to Registered Art & Play Clinicians™ who have been trained in program delivery, ongoing evaluation and final assessment (for more information about Registered Art & Play Clinicians see services). All programs follow clear clinical protocols and guidelines and are evaluated using pre and post standardised measures of assessment.

Updates on program implementation and outcomes will be provided at the Academy’s Annual Conferences and related research published in the Australian Journal of Art & Play Therapy. For further information please contact the Academy.
